Color Wheel:

Number 1 indicates the primary colors,
yellow, red and blue.
2 indicates the secondary colors made
by mixing two primaries, purple, green
and orange.
Each primary sits above it's opposite
(complimentary) color. I've put a dab
of each color's compliment within the
color block.
3 shows the tertiary colors. (various
browns) They are achieved by mixing
or layering a primary (#1) with a
secondary (#2)
Glazing
Nearly all of my work contains glazing.
(A translucent application of color) It is
a technique that was used by the Old
Masters to render luminous skin
among other things.
Shown on the left, is amounts of
pigment and medium I regularly use to
make a glaze. My medium of choice is
Liquin.
Layer after layer of color is applied,
letting each one dry before the next
application. This is how I achieve
depth and translucency in flesh tones.
Sketching
I don't think nearly enough can be
said for the continued practice of
sketching. Accurate rendering of a
subject requires that these skills be
practiced. Of course, a person can
paint without knowing how to sketch,
but if you're looking for realism, give
yourself the gift of sketching.
Even if you choose to use other tools
like projectors to get the initial
drawing, the time will come in the
painting where a line will be lost.
Sketching skills will save the painting
at this time.

What a glaze looks like
Here is a collage of photos of my
painting "George The Entertainer." I
hope to show how each layer of glaze
changes the skin color only slightly.

Thank you
A huge "thank you" to all of you who have watched
my youtube video tutorials. and to those who left such
positive feedback. The videos had a greater response
than I could ever have imagined! It is a thrill to see so
many pick up their brushes and begin to paint, to
dream...
A very special thankyou to those of you who have
shared your work with me. I knew you could do it!
Huge Applause!!!
